Ten minutes from Southwell, in the Trent Valley
The Reindeer is in Hoveringham, a village just south of Southwell on the edge of the Trent Valley. From the Minster town, it is a short drive through Thurgarton and along the river, the kind of Sunday morning journey that sets the day up right.
The terrace at the back looks directly onto the village cricket ground. On a good Sunday, there are few better places to spend a couple of hours in Nottinghamshire.

A kitchen that takes produce seriously
The Reindeer is run by Billy Mantle, a professional chef with serious restaurant experience. The Sunday roast here is not an afterthought added to prop up a quiet service. It is the meal the pub was built around.
More about Billy and the kitchenThe Reindeer exists for one reason: to serve the very best produce we can get our hands on. Great ingredients have a story behind them: the people who raise them, grow them and care for them. Our responsibility is to honour that work by cooking with skill, restraint and attention to detail.
Simple in principle. Uncompromising in execution.

The Sunday roast, done properly
Choose from dry-aged beef, roast pork belly, corn-fed chicken or wild mushroom pithivier, all served with roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
The beef is dry-aged by Dunwood Farms in Staffordshire. The chicken comes from Packington Farms. The producers are named on the menu because they earn it.
Booking recommended. Sundays fill early, particularly in summer when the terrace is open.
